As a full-time member of GBIF, KBIF committee was formed and operates in order to identify and collect national natural history resources and establish a network of cooperation.

KBIF’s missions include the following;
Establishing a system of exchange and cooperation regarding bio-diversity information and data between nations
Planning, renewal, and management of the implementation plans for South Korea that are related to GBIF
Providing administrative support to the GBIF executive board of directors and the South Korean delegation to help with their participation in international events related to bio-diversity information
Providing administrative support measures based on the agreements between related committees or government departments on the topic of bio-diversity information
Implementing projects for proliferating, providing, and securing bio-diversity information from domestic or international sources
Establishing and operating NARIS(Korean Natural History Research Information System)
Operating and supporting the network for the Korean Biodiversity Consortium
