It is a standard natural history DB system in compliance with the standards of the ICOM(International Council of Museums) and GBIF(Global Biodiversity Information Facility), providing the natural history information stored in the existing South Korean data bases, local natural history museums, and colleges, and science museums. Also, it is a system that can connect to world-wide networks as the National Science Museum serves as the GBIF Data Node.
KBIF(Korean Biodiversity Information Facility) is the South Korean chaptor of GBIF(Global Biodiversity Information Facility) and functions as the national node, forming a network with the organizations which have samples and information on bio diversity in South Korea. And, KBIF uses its data portal, NARIS, to provide the information they have to other key organizations in the country and elsewhere.
NARIS has established a natural history and bio-diversity database combining the scattered information pools on the topic in different science museums, colleges, and museums, so that they can be used by researchers and the general public of South Korea and other countries. It also functions as a GBIF Data Node that can be linked with the global network of biological diversity information.
